…& Treasure Island.
Eureka!
Yesterday I took the plunge. I made a Photo Trip to The Island between Oakland and San Francisco. Yerba Buena is the original island. Treasure Island was created to facilitate the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. The man-made island has been repurposed several times since and is undergoing some radical changes again as I type this. Lots of construction going on. In with these photos there is a picture of Treasure Island from the Peak of Yerba Buena Island, Taken from Panorama Park by the Port Chicago Monument. Aptly named-I made about 20 panoramas, many of them made it to this post.
Yerba Buena is one home to the Bay’s Coast Guard crews. Coast Guard Island, the main base, is on Alameda, just down the road, or across the harbor. There’s lots of history here. Click the links to read more.
There’s a newer section of the Bay Bridge between Oakland and SF. It’s on the Oakland side of the Islands. I made some cool shots from above. Not so cool from below – construction & cranes everywhere.

Towards the end of the set is a photo of the Coast Guard Tall Ship, USS Eagle. I came here specifically to make photos of the ship. I knew it would be a zoo in SF on a Friday so I purposely drove to the Islands thinking I would easily capture Eagle from there. Well, I did capture it. I wasn’t terribly thrilled with any of the takes though. So the purpose of the shoot was a bust, mostly. Once again I stepped on my own tail. I didn’t want to bring the whole collection of gear with me as I’m familiar with the area and there are some questionable characters hanging about. So the less I have with me, the better I feel about safety. So, what did I leave at home this time? you ask.
I’m embarrassed to say I left my entire filter collection at home. All I needed was a circular polarizer to address the sun glare/haze issue. GRRRRRRR!
I’m going to glue them to the camera now.
Enjoy,
