Wolf’s Life Cycle

…interesting research for this subject.

I told you I had to learn about wolves to write about them. It’s been quite an interesting venture. I’m at the point now where I understand what the cubs went through before the old man met them. At the stage in their lives where that happened the cubs would already have been venturing out farther than I’ve had them go at 6 to 9 months. They were orphaned just before that would have happened. By the point I am now in the story, their mom would have brought them back to her pack, so they could learn the rest of the ropes. Unfortunately, mom met her match in the old cougar. And the old man now thinks the pack might be rejecting them.

Incidentally, we’re not done with that old cat. Not yet.

I still had to learn.

There are tons of YouTube videos about the life cycle of wolves and other animals. These are a couple of my favorite. The links take you to YouTube. There are short ads. You can skip them in a few seconds. The second video is long, long, but really good footage. Probably not for the really young.

Fascinating stuff this nature thing…

From Pup to Pack Leader: The Incredible Journey of a Wolf’s Life

and

Wolf life

Writing a book about something is very much like creating a screen play in your head. What you envision isn’t always exactly what you write though. Sometimes, the right words elude me, and I end up wandering off on a tangent trying to find them.

Sometimes when I stumble in writing, I might just let my mind go ahead and create the play in case that gets me past the stuck place.

This is one set of scenes as the story is unfolding in my head right now. I feel I need to compare the life of the typical wolf cub to what mine are going through. Something has to explain where the story is going. I’m not so much stuck as I am at a place where the story can go a hundred different ways, but I am stuck deciding which of those ways to continue. I have a clear path to the finish for the overall story but there are 20 sub plots getting there, I have to give each some ink to do it right – I think. Or I could skip all that and get to the meat now. I am kind of anxious to start putting that to words. It’s a huge pile of stuff rattling around up there and it’s messing with everything else. Plus, I am dying to read the ending. LOL 😏

The wolf life cycle

🎬 Video Script: “Born of the Wild – A Wolf’s Journey”

⛰️ Opening Scene: Dawn in the Wilderness

Visual: Mist rolling over a pine forest, distant howls echoing. Narration:
“In the heart of the untamed wilderness, where silence speaks and shadows move, a new life begins. A wolf pup opens its eyes for the first time — fragile, curious, and destined for survival.”

🐾 Scene 2: Puphood – Learning the Pack

Visual: Young wolves tumbling in the grass, nuzzling their mother. Narration:
“Play is their first teacher. Through games and gentle scuffles, the pup learns the language of the pack — loyalty, hierarchy, and instinct. Every nip and howl is a lesson in becoming wild.”

🌲 Scene 3: Adolescence – Strength and Struggle

Visual: A juvenile wolf navigating rocky terrain, watching older wolves hunt. Narration:
“As the seasons turn, the pup grows leaner, faster, wiser. Hunger sharpens its senses. The forest becomes both classroom and crucible, testing its resolve with every step.”

🐺 Scene 4: The Hunt – Becoming the Predator

Visual: A coordinated pack chase through snow, ending in a successful hunt. Narration:
“Now a hunter, the wolf moves with purpose. No longer a student, it joins the rhythm of the chase — a dance of strategy, speed, and survival. The pack thrives together, each member a vital thread in nature’s tapestry.”

🌌 Closing Scene: Legacy of the Wild

Visual: A lone wolf silhouetted against a moonlit ridge. Narration:
“From helpless pup to apex predator, the wolf’s journey is one of transformation. It is not just a story of survival — it is a story of belonging, of instinct, and of the wild spirit that lives in us all.”

Fini

So, you see I have no trouble putting the general timeline down, but it’s not a normal one, so I have to realistically create what would most likely happen in this situation. Verisimilitude is paramount. This isn’t fantasy. It’s fiction. The rules of nature still apply. I have to learn the rules the wolf way so I can faithfully and realistically write this novel.

An artistic illustration of a wolf with glowing blue eyes, surrounded by ethereal blue flames, conveying a sense of power and mystique.

Back to chapter 11…it’s a beast. (😱)
