Popi’s thoughts: with Photos 21May26 Again we visit Tesla-Discovery Park for more hawks, Jays, ducks, and Red-Winged Black Birds. I’ve shown the whole top of the pole where the Hawks often light. It is chock full of high voltage power lines. I’ve not seen any electrocuted birds. Just thought it was interesting. You can see the perch on top that PG&E put there for the birds to use which is clear of all the clutter. I’m guessing they can’t read.

What brought Tesla to Livermore:
Tesla expanded its footprint into Livermore in 2016, signing initial leases that quickly culminated in taking over the entire Oaks Logistics Center (spanning 1.3 million square feet across Discovery Drive, Challenger Street, and Atlantis Court) by early 2017. At the time, it was recognized as the largest industrial lease signed in East Bay history.
Its Role and Purpose
The Livermore facility functions primarily as a massive regional distribution and logistics center. It was strategically established to solve a specific bottleneck: the main vehicle manufacturing plant in Fremont was rapidly running out of physical space ahead of high-volume production lines (specifically for the Model 3 rollout).
Its primary functions include:
- Inventory & Parts Management: It acts as a primary staging and inventory control point for hundreds of individual manufacturing components.
- Fremont Supply Chain Support: Located just 20 miles northeast of the Fremont factory, the warehouse serves as a critical buffer zone—allowing Tesla to hold and organize materials close by without cluttering the main assembly floor.
- Gigafactory Pipeline: Situated right along major transit corridors like Interstate 580, it serves as a logistical stepping stone for vehicle components and battery packs traveling between Gigafactory Nevada and the Bay Area production lines.
- Service and Customer Fulfillment: Beyond factory logistics, the site manages the distribution of parts to regional service centers and coordinates part order pick-ups.
Popi luvs ya!
