Over the last couple of days my head has been swimming in anticipatory BS and it drove me nuts stifling those feelings. Yes, I know better. Dear Scott releases the last of the angst in my heart – I think. Honestly though, I have been stumbling about in my feelings for days really, but it all came to a head this morning. All the crazy stinkin’ thinkin’ disappeared, oddly enough, when a stout Marine captain came out to address not just the recruits, but us too – we weepy friends and family there to participate. He did exactly what I would expect from a Marine leader, he brought us all to calm and resolve, segueing perfectly into the recruits making their oaths
Dear Scott

Dear Scott
For years as my boys were growing I dreaded the very thought of them choosing that path. My history wouldn’t allow that to be an option for them in my head. Fortunately, neither Jake nor Dylan made that choice and that particular tripwire was never engaged. I had plenty of other worries for both and for Brie. By the time Dylan came around I was more grounded, but I still had those horrible “what ifs” cripple me from time to time. Parenthood is insane. I don’t know why anyone would chose it. I don’t recommend!!!!!😋😉🤭🫣🤫

Dear Scott
Seeing that stance – the power and determination within that ‘boy‘, turned it all around. I wasn’t peripherally and disturbingly thinking the worst anymore. I saw the promise of a bright and successful future in a proud and strong ‘young man‘. My heart started beating again.

Dear Scott
He was surrounded by like-minded young people which reminded me that from now on, he will be in the best company there could possibly be. He now has an extended family called the United States Marine Corps, and they will care for him as well as we ever could, if not with as much love. My heated thoughts were cooled with that knowledge.

We gathered last night for a final dinner together. His friend Ava brought a little address book at the local convenience store. It was all she could find. She wanted to have us all write a little something in it for Scott. It’s the one personal belonging he would be allowed during his first 13 weeks. I have tremors so writing is out for me. Besides, I was as tongue-tied as I’ve ever been for anything to say to him now that it was down to the wire. Funny, because I’ve been bombarding him with little tidbits of military do’s & don’ts etc. for the last two months – on a nearly daily basis.
Dear Scott
We’re home now. It’s done. I turned on the PC and the words flowed. I got the message off to him just in time for him to receive it before they took his phone away. I am at ease now. I haven’t slept in two days, so –
Good night!
