24Jul-Photo Release – Baer Island is a nature preserve in San Francisco Bay. The park is also in one of the more difficult places to get to on a weekday, especially in the morning. What’s worse, is trying to get out of the area once you’re there, especially on a Friday. I have had the pleasure of enjoying several four-hour commutes from San Francisco to Livermore on a Friday afternoon. One crash, some construction, more than one event, or just a bunch of idiots on the road at the same time is all it takes for everything to go south…and that’s before rush hour.
Not this cowboy, No sirree. I was determined to beat the traffic both ways, even if it was Friday. So, I got up before Oh-dark-thirty, and beat the traffic across the bridge. I got a great parking spot right at the entrance to the park. This was going to work out beautifully. No traffic on the way home on a Friday? That’s unheard of. Nobody gets to leave before 1500.
Well, let me tell ya. It was cold. I got out of the car, the wind off the bay hit me like a gale from Alaska, and I got right back in the car. I waited until the sun started to climb above the horizon. I got out and on the trail at about 0630, I had all the clothes I brought with me, which wasn’t enough. I made it to the end of the trail in one direction and then straight back to the car to go home. I not only left before noon, I got home before noon.
The maps show the size of the entire park on the left, and the walking trail on the right. I did capture some nice shots but not as many feathers as I expected. I probably needed to wait longer or go the other way maybe.
