13Aug-Photo Release – This happened in April. It was a long planned seaside trek. The California Coast is like none other, except perhaps Maine and Oregon. I had been to so many beautiful spots over the years that I never had time to stop and smell the roses at many of them. They were more like drive-by WOWs. There was the promise of beautiful weather and the unmatched beauty of the PCH.
The plan was to hit the road earlier than the sandman was ready to give me up. The drive to Cayucos Is about 3 hours, then from there, its several hours up the coast to the second area of interest – Elephant Seal Beach. /after that I would have a very long run up the coast to Big Sur and McWay Falls, the final resting place where I would begin the trek back home. There are spots along the way where it isn’t uncommon to see whales passing. That was one attraction. Then there’s the coast of course, I can never get enough of the sea. That was at the beginning of the day. San Simeon Castle was our starting point for this the second leg though.
This set came out of my vault first, so you get it first. I’ll go back to the first leg tomorrow.
The rest of the story: When I left Elephant Seal Beach, I traveled about 20 miles further north before I saw the first sign – Highway One closed at Mill Creek Bridge. About 5 miles short of my destination. Worse than that, there is no road across the mountains to Central Valley south of Big Sur, all the way back to where I came across – forty-five miles in reverse.
