05Aug-Photo Release – After I finished curating the shoot I realized I recently released a compilation of this four-day trip up North. So You’ll see some familiar shots, maybe. This was one day – I made over 600 images in three different areas. See the map.
If I could do this trip again, I would do it earlier by a month, when it would be even colder, but there would more than likely be hundreds of eagles in the Klamath Falls Area. When I cruised the lake itself on the 24th of February, I saw not one eagle and I was so depressed. 😭 I made a few shots downtown then returned to the hotel, ate and turned in early so I could get a before dawn start on the 25th. I was determined to try again. The Oregon Parks department showed me four locations to check when I was per-planning the trip. I cleared two the first day. The images below were from day two and the first stop on my list – not for eagles this time bit for Tundra Swans and I found them. There were also a ton of White-fronted Geese.
I’m going to release this day’s shoot in three parts, of the different places I visited. See the Map. This day’s fare was memorable for a couple of reasons. In between Miller Island and Lower Klamath Lake, I thought I’d found a great shortcut that would take 20 miles off my trip. Definitely worth it, right? NOT! It was one of those fire road things, I thought I could handle with my all-wheel drive Hyundai. two-thirds of the way in The road became two ruts with a center strip of dirt and grass scraping the undercarriage. I truly didn’t think I would make it. It was one lane on a levee in a watery tundra all around me for miles. I refused to stop, praying I wouldn’t get hung up, because there was also no phone signal. When I finally saw a real road way ahead I got so excited I almost drove off the levee. Quite the trip. And both of the next two days, I drove the extra miles. PHEW!
NOTE: The border in the map is the California Oregon border.
