06Aug-Photo Release – This was actually my third stop of the day. The second was at Indian Tom Lake where there were also zero eagles. 😑 I was losing hope. The next stop was at Lower Klamath Lake which was nearly dry. I could see on the map that more of the waterway extended beyond a tree line that sided the track I was driving on – a levee road I think – a dirt track wide enough for two cars. I stopped the car and shut down the engine and just stood there thinking the trip was a waste or nearly so – no eagles. I heard a racket of bird noise coming from the other side of the trees.
I checked the map and looked locally for a way over to the trees that were separated from the track by a canal. No dice, but I noticed movement high up in a tree. Perched on the upper branches overlooking the waterway I couldn’t get to, were a dozen Baldies looking for lunch. Most were behind branches and not completely visible. The three in this set were mostly clear. The Juvenile was particularly photogenic. Then there was a lone Red Tail. I think he was lost or lonely. Never saw one hanging out with eagles. After exhausting those eagle shots I got back in the car and headed further into the preserve. I got maybe 50 feet when a huge white tail flashed past me headed for a nest and I had to stop again. That’s for tomorrow.
