07Aug-Photo Release – This was the forth stop of the day, but it was only a few hundred feet from the first set. As I said yesterday, I was driving away when one of the pair flew right in front of me. I pulled over again and looked up to see the eagle flying up to its nest and the other one peeking over the edge of it. The shot of the flyer was blurred, the shot of the one in the nest was okay – I wasn’t quite fast enough rolling the focus wheel to get the eagle nice and crisp. The rest of the set was pretty good though. Then at the end f the row of trees, there was another Red Tail Hawk – this one a juvenile. They must have seen how sloppy eagles are and wait for the droppings. Lazy birds.
The nest shots and the shots of the eagle landing are the same two birds. The one who flew in seemed to take over and the other flew 100 feet to another branch. Maybe the young-uns were being a pain in the butt. The rest except for the Hawk are of seven different eagles from the earlier set. Once I’d moved farther down the line, I had a better perspective to the others that were behind branches before. The last two eagles were screeching at each other, or with each other. I put the gear away in preparation to start the drive back to Merrill, OR where I was staying. As I walked to the driver door, the Juvenile took off and tried to snatch whatever an adult had in its talons. It failed. I was stuck deciding whether to go on or grab the gear again just in case. I lost sight of the juvenile though, and that decided it.
